What we collect, and what we don't

This index exists because freight rates can be pooled without exposing whose rates they are. We hold ourselves to the same standard for the people using the site.

We never collect

If you accept analytics

We record which pages and lanes are viewed and searched, when, a coarse country, and your IP address. These are tied to a random identifier stored in a cookie on your device. If you decline, nothing is recorded at all, and we honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track as a decline without asking.

An IP address is personal data, and we keep it for as long as we keep the rest of this activity. We use it to understand where usage comes from and to investigate abuse. It is not used to target advertising and is not shared.

If you sign in

We store your work email address and its domain, along with the company name, phone number and rough monthly volume you give us when you sign in, so we can keep you signed in across devices and understand who is using the index. From then on, the activity above is associated with your account. We use this to decide which lanes to index next and to understand how the product is used.

Who sees it

Starboard staff, through an internal dashboard. This data is not sold, not shared with other customers, and not sent to a third-party analytics provider — it stays in our own database. Your searches are commercially sensitive and we treat them that way.

How long we keep it

Account records and usage history — including IP addresses — are kept indefinitely. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove it and the activity tied to it.

Changing your mind

Clear this site's cookies and the banner will ask again; declining stops all collection from that point. Signing out ends the association with your account.

Published rates are anonymized market aggregates — pooled across many carriers and shippers so no single company's rate can be read out of them.
